Handmade Natural Soap Bar – Singo

Singo: a traditional full body scrub made with fresh blooms and spices, used by Swahili women on their wedding day. Zanzibari brides-to-be undergo the Singo body scrub for several days until their skin is fragrant and glowing for their wedding day. The scrub is a true symbol of beauty traditions passed down through generations of African women. The Singo body scrub is a natural fragrant scrub made from African ingredients such as ylang ylang flowers, jasmine flowers, sandalwood powder, ground cloves, basil and raw sugar. The ingredients are blended in a traditional blender called the ‘kinu’ with rosewater, making it a luxurious experience. As my homage to my favourite spa treatment, Singo features Jasmine, Rose and Ylang Ylang, complemented by the earthy scents of clove, basil and sandalwood to create a bar that is a fascinating blend of floral, woodsy and spicy scents. Coloured with cinnamon and clove powders and pink clay to form a three layered bar, Singo is delicately finished with a small rose bud to give an added bit of glamour.
